Scavenger Hunt

Pain's strategy in each cautious measure,
 skilled players in the art of probable war;
  You drew the board as I set the pieces,
   lonely; scavenger hearts seeking something more ~

We excavated ruins of what once had been,
 digging up skeletons,  ghosts absorbing space;
  Burning forests occupying our past innocence,
   wanting souls grounded in the same wretched place ~

Forged in dark elements,
 comforted in familiar games,
  born to run in divergent directions,
   we scatter on voiceless paths of retreat;
 Leading quiet masquerade dances around each other,
   Ego's deception chopping at our one heartbeat ~

One day will we sacrifice our position in this rotten game?
 choking our deafening cries of mercy?
  banishing our sad songs into an abyss all alone?

As endless days waste into graves hunting our presence,
 will we salvage love remedying our scavenger hearts?
  or will love fester; a cesspool of our unknown?

Absolution: A Poem

One truth in your love,
fills me with oxygen;
A pulsing grey matter,
our own form of Zen ~

One truth in your love,
absolves all of our sin;
Purifying my very being,
washing away deception ~

One truth in your love,
tells me you exist;
Completing my heart and soul,
though we’ve never kissed ~

One truth in your love,
causes me to forget;
Shadows in our lives,
because we’ve never met.

 I originally wrote this 26 years ago & this poem is an updated version of the earlier one (the only difference is the 3rd stanza).  I didn't want to give the wrong impression.

Sorrow's Anchor

The dawn trumpets vows of hallowed tomorrows,
The sun torments, conflicting mortals of the night;
Damning dreams forever separated by fear's darkness,
Their heart's one shadow dissolved in mourning's light ~

She breathed distance in the intrepid ocean air,
The wind extinguishing a beacon in distress;
Her soul's essence tethered to the rocky shore,
On higher ground, he stood forever motionless ~

His tears falling in the black ocean's mist,
Obscuring a window, weathering the storm;
Blinding his view, hopeless to watch over her,
Hearts forfeit to sorrow's anchor eternally born.
