Silk Sheets of Yesteryear

Awakening pre-dawn for my writing activities, I have just fallen back to sleep when a loud buzzing sound reawakens me.  The room still dark, a Bomber Jet and a Fire & Rescue Airplane are now flying around my head; my bed their landing strip.

"Come on, Mom, you take the Bomber.  Start a fire so I can rescue you."

Airplanes in bed
School is on holiday.  My ever energetic preschooler did not heed the memo instructing him to sleep later than usual.  I attempt to send him back to his bedroom to no avail.

There is no sending him downstairs to play.  His sister and her cousin are crashing there on our living room sofas for an all night "sleep over"; an altogether different story on how each girl was put to sleep in proper beds & somehow ended up falling asleep with the t.v. still running and A&W cream soda cans littering the floor (Sneaky Sneaks!).

Girls after an all night sleep over react like grouchy bears if awakened early so absolute silence must be maintained in the downstairs living quarters.

As I still lay in bed, my son is persistent so he and I play airplanes.  His initial mission to rescue me soon turns into an all out jet fighter war ending as he smashes my plane (and fingers) into the bed.

He soon tires of playing airplanes and retreats to his room for more toys.  Somehow he becomes distracted while there & I can hear him singing in his room as I drift back into sleep relieved to get some rest.

His body slam to my legs reawakens me.  He has somehow broken into the password protected iPad and is now loudly playing fiesta music on the iTunes radio, jumping on my bed in an all out dance party.

Until today, I was not even aware he knew: 1) how to power on the iPad; 2) the password and 3) the location of the iTunes radio app.  Note to naive parenting self to be more aware of kids and modern technology.

Gone are the days of the silk sheets now traded in for high thread count durable cotton; strong enough to withstand one preschooler's airplane fighting, bed jumping, fiesta dancing antics while awakening his Mom in the morning.

In the mood for a fiesta? Here is the music my son randomly selected for his dance party this morning ~ If I have to wake up, this is the music :)   No worries for the music censors out there ~ he only listened to the music.  He won't be ready for the video for more than a few years.
